Folded sheets are secured along the centre fold, usually with staples. This suits many shorter booklets. Page count, paper thickness and creep—the movement of inner sheets towards the trimmed edge—need to be allowed for in production.
Perfect binding fixes pages into a cover with adhesive. Sewn construction and case binding offer other ways to build a book; a hard cover alone does not specify how the text block is constructed. Ask about opening behaviour and durability.
Wire or spiral formats can be useful where pages need to turn back. Decide how the publication will be used, then confirm page count, paper, margins and any spine requirements before the layout is final.
