Agree the Role

Editing, rewriting and co-authoring involve different levels of involvement. Before work begins, agree scope, responsibilities, review rounds, credit and ownership arrangements. Specialist subject review and fact-checking need to be identified explicitly.

From Words to Pages

Editorial decisions are usually easier before the book is typeset. Once the text is stable, page design can give it a consistent visual structure. Proofreading of the laid-out pages is a distinct final stage.
